PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
- Academic Instruction is a competency-based adult high school diploma program that provides an opportunity for students to earn a high school diploma, prepare for the GED certificate, and enhance academic skills needed for vocational training.
- We offer rigorous academic curriculum:
1. Thirty-three"a-g" approved courses: Core courses
approved by the University of California to satisfy UC
subject requirements for freshman admission.
2. Thirty-nine NCAA approved courses for use in
establishing the initial-eligibility certification status of
student-athletes.
3. Academic courses equivalent to LAUSD secondary courses.
- Instruction and assessment are personalized, based on each student's abilities, interests, and goals.
- Open enrollment allows for entry into the program at any time.
- Self-paced learning occurs in Individualized Instruction Centers or through whole-group instruction.
- In Adult Independent Study, students work independently but meet with a supervising teacher regularly.
TARGET POPULATION
- Adults 18 years and above.
- Concurrently-enrolled students and at-risk youth.
- Students preparing to pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).
PROGRAM FOCUS
- Adult students complete the graduation requirements to earn a high school diploma.
- Concurrently-enrolled students make up deficient high school credits.
- At-risk youth study in a special setting to complete course requirements for a high school diploma.
- All students receive a rigorous education in order to pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).
